We've teamed up with Orange and Sony Ericsson to find the best unsigned band in Britain. We'll reward the winning band with an awesome recording contract, complete with a big fat advance cheque. You'll also be able to watch the bands that make it through every week on T4 and 4music over 3 months this autumn. While I'm here - here's a couple of updates on the competition...

It's just been confirmed that Jo Whiley has been appointed as one of the judges, and the deadline for entering the competition has been extended a week - 12th August is now the last day to enter. The prize has also been confirmed - it's a record deal with a major label with a guaranteed Single and Album release and a video for the single. The record deal will include a cash advance and recording costs for making the album.

Hi all,

Just a very quick message to let you know that voting's now open on the mobileACT site. The top 25 bands based on fan votes will automatically go through to the next round, and the judges will be picking another 25 to go through. Each day you can vote for as many of your favourite mobileAct unsigned bands as you want – but you can only cast one vote per band per day. You need to register as a fan on the site to start voting - you can do that right here:

When voting is finished, we'll announce the final 50 bands on the website, and get in touch with everyone individually. If you've entered, then you might wanna post below and let people know - so they can vote for you :)

Another update for you guys - thanks for posting the info for us elsewhere too:

The vote has now closed and we're just counting and checking the final results. Bear with us - it could take a few days to audit the vote – to make sure it is definitely 100% accurate and fair. Over the next couple of days we’ll be contacting the bands chosen by the fans and by the mobileAct unsigned team directly. If you don’t receive a call then don’t despair because you could still make it to the auditions as a wild card.

If you do not hear from us in the next couple of days then you have not made it into the final 50. However we are offering you one last chance to get a place at the auditions and to play in front of our panel of judges. On Wednesday 29 August we're going to hold an open audition to find 4 Wild Card bands. Each band will be invited to one of our four audition days in Sheffield and London. Those who attend the open audition will be asked to play one acoustic 'unplugged' song in front of a record scout. He will put through the first 4 bands that impress him.

Any band that is registered on the mobileAct website is eligible to try out at the Wild Card open audition. However this will strictly be an acoustic audition with no facilities for bands to plug in and perform electronically. And you need to RSVP to wildcard@princesstv.com if you’re going to come along. We’ll reveal the exact time and location of these auditions to those who RSVP. Come early to avoid disappointment - the audition may start in the queue and we cannot guarantee to see all the bands. The producer's discretion is final.

If you've signed up to the site as a fan, thankyou. Over the past week and a half you’ve been voting in droves. Thousands upon thousands of votes have been registered - so thanks for really getting involved in mobileAct unsigned. We’ll be announcing details of what the bands will be getting up to and other ways for you to get involved in mobileAct unsigned very soon.
