This album is my first release - the tracks all deal with issues affecting my life before 2005, when I left home and moved to Nuneaton, England to live with my wife-to-be Natalie. Hence the title. They are quite introspective and brooding, reflecting my mood in the difficult last few years before moving on.
The completed album is full of strong melodies, interesting chord changes and detailed arrangements that are sure to catch the ear of any fan of late 80’s and early 90’s pop and rock.
In terms of production, one album that had a massive effect on me at an early age was The Seeds of Love by Tears for Fears. While this album has its flaws in hindsight, its lavish "overproduced" sound still inspires me and it was this feel that I attempted to recreate with my first album. So there are lots of overdubs and subtle details that will take time to discover - they won't reveal themselves on first listening.
Some tracks were directly inspired by songs on Seeds of Love. The song Sixty-Six is really my reply to Sowing the Seeds of Love and stylistically, Happiness and Make-Believe is the cousin of Advice for the Young at Heart.
Tracks such as Ghost Town and Hard Act to Follow come from the same source as many of the classic 80's rock tunes that I grew up with, while material such as Medicine, Getting Nowhere from Here and The Ending is plucked from the progressive rock that my Dad used to play for me on Friday nights!
So here it is for you to enjoy - my first album. Feel free to download the tracks and share them. It has given me a lot of pleasure to make this record. I hope you gain something from it too.
