A Canadian guy, a London bloke that looks like the singer from Scissor Sisters and the rest of the band are from Germany, if there IS a female solo singer she certainly didn't perform sadly.

Click here to download or hear their songs for free.. it's jazz man!

Biography on ninjatune (they didn't like it when I said they are signed to ninjatune, apparently they are not signed to that label?)

OK.. my take on the performance.

They turned up a little late but set up quickly and appeared on stage to a fairly busy crowd.

They reminded me of the groovy goolies band if anyone remembers that.. long haired hippies looking a little eccentric.

All musicians were well conversed with their many instruments and there certainly were plenty of noodley bits, tinkly bells, cymbals but.. one thing that I found quite frustrating was the lack of a lead singer, one or two tracks had vocals but to be honest the guy looked a little uncomfortable singing to me, maybe that is unfair but that's how it seemed, one friend thought that the band were losing the crowd half way through as a few people started to leave and in an intimate venue like this, spaces immediately become apparent.

There were flashes of brilliance but they seemed more comfortable with slower, elaborately drifting vibes than full on funk. One track that bucked the trend that night was a rather nice Afro Fusion track which could have been on a Fela Kuti compilation, obviously based on that style but it didn't last longer than one tune.

As if by magic the band seemed to refocus towards the last few songs and when they attempt funk it is awesome, very authentic and got into a nice groove but still, no singer, the DJ came back on and I think I actually preferred it that way. Sorry guys, wasn't quite what I hoped for, definitely more of a sit down on a Sunday afternoon band.

Be careful SJ, about long haired hippes!!!
You might hurt my feelings.
Incidentally, we didn't look a little eccentric,
we were total!
