Director: Oliver Stone
Writers :Randall Jahnson and Oliver Stone

Plot Summary

Oliver Stone's homage to 60's rock group The Doors also doubles as a biography of the group's late singer, the "Electric Poet" Jim Morrison. The movie follows Morrison from his days as a film student in Los Angeles to his death in Paris in 1971, at the age of 27. The movies features a tour- de-force performance by Val Kilmer, who not only looks like Jim Morrison's long-lost twin brother, but also sounds so much like him that he did much of his own singing. It has been written that even the surviving Doors had trouble distinguishing Kilmer's vocals from Morrison's originals

Hey.. you beat me to it!!! I was going to do this one the other day but couldn't decide whether to add utube footage of the actual band or the film it's self, it's a brilliant film and I have seen this a couple of times.

Val Kilmer plays a very believable role, I have since heard that the film was not a very true representation of the band history, apparently the band did not play to massive audiences and Jim wasn't so wild in real life. I am surprised they didn't play Woodstock but I have read that Jim didn't like playing large out door venues.

SJ,
Beat you to it, ah well tough!!! Ha Ha
You beat me to it on 'Don't Look Back'
Val Kilmer has always been a favourite of mine,
ever since is portrayal of 'Doc Holliday' in 'Tombstone'
However as Van, he was awesome,
completely fooling everyone.
Similar to Gary Busey in 'The Buddy Holly Story'
another one I am about to review!

Good to see you've got this one covered anyway, I quite like the fact that Val overplays the role a bit, it kind of adds to the mystique of Jim.

Only seen it once but quite enjoyed this film. Kilmer does seem to do a good job in the lead role though I'm only basing that on Doors footage I've seen.

I met Jim and the doors when I was with Terry Reid and we were on the supporting bill when we all played at the Roundhouse 1968..
He was quite a gentleman, the way he was portrayed in the movie he wouldn't have lasted in any band for long..
