One of the topics that always facinates me about bands and musicians is how they got started in Music, was it that drum kits you parents bought you for your birthday or the trumpet aunty mary gave you as a Christmas present, tell us how you got into music :)

I think my brother was quite instrumental (pun intended) in my first music experience, he bought me a budget drum machine fro Christmas, prior to that I had just been messing around on an Amiga 600 computer and a few out of tune guitars.

Hi,
My brother helped a friend out, who was short of cash.
He bought an old battered Spanish guitar off him.
I borrowed it when, he got home,
I was 10 years old, formed my first band
at 15.
As a result I have now
made a professional living out of the music business,
for 46 years!!!

Started on trumpet and cornet and played in a marching band, gave it all up around age 13 and a couple of years later started playing bass - mostly heavy metal stuff, being a bit of a metal head in my teenage years. Moved onto guitar and then synths in the 90's.

What kind of synths did you use?

E-mu Morpheus, Novation Supernova & Korg Prophecy, plus a Roland handsonic for percussion.

Excellent, the Novations are great. And the prophecy although I never owned one.
My first analog kit was a Cheetah MS6 acid module, I had two serious electric shocks off the casing but the sounds were ace.

I always wanted a Korg Poly 800 MK II but always seemed to end up with other bits of kit, one of my favourites was an old Jen SX1000 (Altern8 & LFO fame).

Maybe we should start a thread for instruments ;)

When we got into forming a band all the pubs were in full flow so there were plenty of opportunities to learn a few chords and start giigging around the locals, you soon started to meet like minded people and supported each other.

I was born with a silver microphone in my mouth ;)

This may sound stupid, but when I was about 8 yrs old went to my neighbors to play Atari and he pulled out KISS - Destroyer album ... I heard Detroit Rock City.... and the rest is history. From that moment on the only thing I cared about was being in a band. Got my first drums set about 2 yrs later and never looked back.
