"With every album Ontario-born studio whiz-kid Dan Snaith releases, he moves further from the mathy electro-hop he pioneered as the one-man band Manitoba, and closer to the shambling psychedelic orchestra he has developed under the moniker Caribou. Pressing play on his fourth full-length is like being yanked down the rabbit hole; without warning, Snaith plunges into the swirling Sixties acid pop of groovy opener "Melody Day." There are flashes of Animal Collective's druggy jams, Spiritualized's spaced-out atmospherics and the Elephant Six Recording Company's symphonic rackets in Andorra's densely packed tracks, which dreamily flutter by like footage on a vintage projector." Toronto's Born Ruffians are the next link in the evolutionary chain of contemporary pop music, mixing drums, bass, and electric guitar, an almost unheard of combination, with bits of harmonium, piano and plenty of "hootin and hollerin".
The album, titled Red, Yellow, and Blue, is the follow-up to starter self-titled EP released on XL recordings in 2006 amidst a slew of press and buzz, unfortunately about other bands. Red, Yellow, and Blue was produced by the hyper, over-caffeinated Rusty Santos, a boy genius from New York responsible for the recording and mixing of Animal Collective's Sung Tongs.

Following on from their 2005 album I Felt Nothing At All, A Hat is a smoldering powerhouse of instrumental muscle very much in the same vein as Tortoise or Explosions In The Sky but has a healthy spattering of Battles as well.
hey change tempo repeatedly, sometimes taking their time and sometimes giving out no warning at all. A strange sense of narrative drifts through them that really holds your attention. This way they maintain the lyrical structure but stay purely instrumental.(Chimpomatic.com)
