Where have all the musicians gone! Have they all left the Midlands or Birmingham to be precise, or have they all retired? If you are like me your sick and tired of doing auditions for/with boys just out of nappies that say they can play but really can't! It's so frustrating being 56 and still able to play most of these guys, (sorry - boys) straight out of the water and into their cradles!

Would be good to talk to bands or musicians in my age bracket that share the same views and or interests. And, by the way, I am looking to join a band as a drummer but I fear the worst. If you do, by some stroke of luck, need an experienced seasoned drummer that "plays" well, please get in touch. If you share my views, then you'll know exactly what I mean.

Hi progrockman

First of all
WELCOME to the forum,
and we hope you take a look around.

I agree, all the good guys, have moved on.
You're nearly as old as me!! Heaven forbid!!
What bands have you been with?

Hi Progrockman,

Taken a look at you site, it's interesting reading.
I knew Robert and John both personally, and professionaly.

I have compiled threads here, for Roberts bands,

60's Brum Beat Bands (http://www.unsignedcity.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?fid=11)

and also, interestingly,
Galliard is also there!

Hi Les,

We probably do know each other!
I take it, you meant change your username, which I have!

Hope this is OK?

Hi

No...not my username, the name you have for me in the band Galliard. If you can change my username back to progrockman that would be good!

Cheers!

Les

Hi Keith;)

Thanks for that. Where are you based? Maybe we ought to get together and form a super group of grumpy old frustrated musicians and go on the road to show these baby indie bands how it's really done! They seem to be taking over this country. A friend of mine moved to Holland a few years back. He says the prog scene is vibrant and there's always some brilliant band on somewhere. There also seems to be alot of prog rock festivals all over Europe. Alas, not here!!! The whole industry seems to be run by that pratt Simon Cowell and his cronies! Cest la vie! The recent performances of The Who were the only thing in recent months worth watching or listening to. All the other bands on the same bill were just blown away! ;)

Hi Les,,
Sounds a good idea, I am based in Torbay.
If you take a look at my web-site, you'll see I'm still very active,
in the business, with constant releases and re-releases.
I am currently writing and recording with Frank Wilson,
the Velvett Fogg keyboard player, and we are constantly approached
to play festivals, and go on tours.
However we're very much studio based these days.

You're right about the UK scene, it's run as pap music,
that's why my record company is European, and indeed most of my sales,
and interest come from the European and North American markets.

Hey Progrockman... :)

loved the drumming on Galliard, maybe you can shed some light on the band, was it actually Birmingham based? the drumming is ace IMO.

There is actually lots going on in Brum right now, lots of venues but ther eis little publicity hence why we started this place and I myself started www.myspace.com/brumbeat

The problem IMO is that there are some wicked bands around, new ones and well seasoned but the local council need to get behind them, several venues are under threat from developers wanting to cash in on cheap tacky apartments, there have been a couple of occasion salready with people moving into Brum city centre from elsewhere, working in the city and taking advantage of the new flats springing up... then a few weeks down the line, after the novelty of city centre living starts to wear off, they complain about local music establishments.

There are lots of issues going on here and I really hope the council help the kids out.

The Jug Of Ale is about to make way for flats with a final gig taking place shortly, very sad.

I do actually know of plans for a super music venue that may spring up by Selfridges/Digbeth in an old derelict Victorian Music Hall, will find out more.

For now... the Spotted Dog also has problems I think? and the Fiddle & Bone went the same way a while back due to noise complaints. These venues were here way before posh city centre flats.
